01
What do ChurnZero and Vitally actually do?
Both are customer success platforms (CSPs): a system of record for post-sale accounts that sits beside the CRM, scores account health, automates outreach and gives CSMs a daily queue. Gainsight is the third common option in this category, and we compare it separately.
ChurnZero was founded in 2015 and describes itself as a remote-first company with headquarters in Washington, D.C., and Amsterdam. Its feature list groups into core features (Command Center, customer playbooks, ChurnScores health scores, Journeys, real-time alerts, Segments, Success Plans, Surveys), digital features (in-app communications, Success Centers, WalkThroughs) and power features (Account Insights, Launchpad, Renewal and Forecast Hub, a REST API). The company claims 70+ native integrations.
Vitally is also remote-first, with employees in the US and London and an office in New York City. Its product is organised into five modules: Productivity (automation, Projects, Hubs), Vitally AI, Collaboration (Docs, surveys, meetings), Blueprints (a template library) and Visibility (health scores, reporting, Goals, formulas). In a demo, work happens in Hubs, Boards, Tables and Docs that look closer to a project tool than a CRM.
So the simplest framing: ChurnZero is the broader communications and automation engine with an unusually long list of AI agents. Vitally is the more workspace-shaped product, built around docs, projects and a data model you can bend.
02
How does pricing and packaging compare?
Neither vendor publishes a dollar figure. That is the first thing to accept before you build a budget.
Vitally at least publishes its plan structure. Its pricing page lists three plans under "Three Plans, One Platform": Tech-Touch ("designed for scaling with one-to-many & PLG Customer Success"), Hybrid-Touch (for "any model of Customer Success") and High-Touch (for "one-to-one Customer Success", labelled "unlimited full seats"). Every plan carries a "Request Pricing" button. The page says the plans carry "the same set of features no matter how you manage Customer Success", and lists what all plans include: all core features, unlimited automations, unlimited observer seats, single sign-on, the full integration library and unlimited Docs. Full-seat counts for the two lower plans are not stated.
ChurnZero has no public pricing page at all. The URL churnzero.com/pricing returns a 404, and the homepage navigation has no pricing link. The AI layer is packaged separately: its June 2026 release notes describe Agentic Essentials as an annual subscription that "brings together ChurnZero's AI Marketplace, AI credits, ChurnZero Connect (MCP)", Knowledge Sources and the Customer Intelligence Profile. An August 2026 press release says it "provides access to all AI agents in a single subscription at one flat price" and that "every agent draws from one shared credit pool". The size of that price and that credit pool are not published.
Third-party sites publish estimated prices for both. None of those numbers come from the vendors, so they are not repeated here. Ask each vendor for the platform fee, the per-seat fee, what counts as a seat, any AI credit allowance, and the overage rules, in writing.
03
Which platform has the stronger AI in 2026?
This is where the two have diverged most, and the section most likely to be out of date when you read it, so check the vendor pages.
ChurnZero has gone wide. Its AI page lists named agents in three groups. Workflow assistance: Consult (builds Success Plans), Compass and Crux (summary emails), Recap (email threads), Scribe (drafts replies), Retrospective (a churn narrative with a confidence score), Pilot, and handoff agents Baton, Liftoff and Transfer. Signal detection: Beacon (buying intent), Echo (feedback), Harbinger (relationship risk) and Spotlight. Data enrichment: Archetype, Herald, Intel, Pulse and Vibes. Above them sit Snapshot AI, Engagement AI, Meeting AI and a CS AI assistant. The August 2026 release counts 20 agents.
Two ChurnZero details matter for a CS leader. First, scope. The March 2026 AI Knowledge Sources launch connects agents to Confluence and Zendesk Guide, with SharePoint, Intercom Articles and Notion added in April, and the company says customers keep "detailed control of which articles, spaces, or documents ChurnZero can reference". Second, autonomy. The vendor's own words are that agents "take action autonomously or on request" and that "your team decides when agents suggest next steps and when they execute". Retrospective is the clearest reviewed output: it drafts the churn analysis, and the CSM reviews, corrects and saves it. The June 2026 notes also add a "Run Agent" step inside Plays, with admins controlling which agents are eligible.
Vitally has gone narrower and closer to the conversation. Vitally AI is a "purpose-built AI Copilot embedded directly into the Vitally Customer Success Platform". The pieces: an AI Meeting Recorder that produces overviews, suggested tasks and follow-up drafts; AI Summaries with citations back to source interactions; Ask AI for questions about a customer, meeting or conversation; AI Actions that generate follow-ups, tasks, notes and custom object updates; prompt-based risk flagging; and an MCP server, marked beta. The page speaks of "AI-generated suggestions" and "Suggested Tasks" rather than agents acting alone, and says nothing explicit about mandatory human approval.
If you want a catalogue of agents you can switch on per account and run inside plays, ChurnZero has more of them and more published guardrails. If you want one copilot that records the call, summarises it with citations and suggests the tasks, Vitally is simpler to govern. Neither describes a formal approval queue where every AI-drafted action waits for a named human before it leaves the platform.

Feature by feature: ChurnZero vs Vitally
Health scoring. ChurnZero: ChurnScores built from "the metrics you choose", with separate scores recommended by customer size, lifecycle stage, industry and region; scores can trigger campaigns and alerts. Vitally: dynamic health scores that "adjust metrics and measurements based on lifecycle stage, segment, and more", with formulas over any Vitally data point.
Automation. ChurnZero: Plays with conditional logic and behavioural triggers, multiple step types, CSMs can approve or remove accounts from a play, and from June 2026 a Run Agent step. Vitally: Playbooks that handle CSM assignment, task creation, goal setting and email campaigns, triggered by CRM, product analytics and revenue data; unlimited automations on every plan.
Customer-facing communication. ChurnZero: in-app announcements at login, WalkThroughs inside your product, Success Centers as a resource hub, surveys by email and in-app with view and click tracking. Vitally: no in-app messaging layer described on its product pages; the customer-facing surface is Docs, which can embed Goals, Projects and Cards.
Collaboration and project work. ChurnZero: Success Plans, Journeys with milestones, Dynamic Slides built from live data, Command Center for daily priorities. Vitally: Projects ("standardize customer and team tasks into time-based Projects"), Docs as "personalized workspaces powered by customer data", Hubs that hold Tables, Boards, Dashboards, Docs, Projects and Account 360s, and Blueprints as a template library.
Meetings and calls. ChurnZero: Meeting AI turns conversations into summaries with action items; Gong, Chorus, Zoom and Teams meetings are listed integrations. Vitally: a native AI Meeting Recorder, automatic attendance tracking, notes linked to Projects and Docs, and a Gong integration.
Surveys. ChurnZero: NPS, CES and CSAT surveys inside the platform. Vitally: custom surveys with text, select, scale, number, date and NPS inputs; responses can feed health scores and automation.
Forecasting and renewals. ChurnZero: Renewal and Forecast Hub with dollar forecasts for renewals, expansion, contraction, churn, GRR and NRR, opportunity management, and a CRM sync "every 15 minutes". Vitally: revenue reporting through dashboards and Goals; Salesforce opportunities sync as custom objects on a read, write and create basis.
Reporting. ChurnZero: Account Insights, custom dashboards, and from April 2026 the ability to share Snapshot AI summaries, dashboards and Renewal Hub reports to Salesforce. Vitally: widget-based dashboards and Goals applied across accounts.
Seats and access. ChurnZero: not published. Vitally: unlimited observer seats on every plan, unlimited full seats on High-Touch, single sign-on on every plan.
Security and hosting. ChurnZero: AWS, data centres in the United States and Ireland, SOC, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA badges on its security page. Vitally: SOC 2 Type 2 audited, AWS hosting in US East and EU North regions.
AI access from other tools. ChurnZero: ChurnZero Connect, an MCP connection that brings live ChurnZero data into Claude or ChatGPT with "permission-based guardrails". Vitally: a Vitally MCP Server, listed as beta.
05
How do they connect to Salesforce, HubSpot and Jira?
For a technical CS team the integration table matters more than the feature list. This is where tickets and CRM fields either stay in sync or drift.
Salesforce. ChurnZero's integration details page lists Account as read/write, Contact as read/write/create, Custom Fields as read/write, Custom Tables and Tasks/Activities as read/write/create, syncing every 15 minutes by default. Vitally's help centre describes bi-directional sync of Accounts and Contacts, Opportunities and custom objects on a "full read/write/create basis", Notes and Tasks both ways with exceptions (note edits made in Vitally do not return to Salesforce, email tasks are not synced), and health scores pushed to Salesforce fields you create yourself with a name beginning "Vitally". Vitally calls the sync near real-time but says it can take up to an hour.
HubSpot. ChurnZero lists Company and Contact as read/write, Deals and Engagements as read/write/create, with deal line items, tickets and calls read-only. HubSpot is on Vitally's integration list, but Vitally's HubSpot page returned an error when fetched for this article, so object-level detail is not confirmed here.
Jira. This is the clearest difference. ChurnZero's Jira Software and Jira Service Management integrations are listed as read-only on issues, synced every 15 minutes, with the account external ID placed in a Jira custom field. Tickets surface in profile timelines and feed Engagement AI, per the April 2026 release notes. Vitally's help article says you can "bi-directionally sync your Jira Issues as Custom Objects": designated team members can create Jira issues from inside Vitally and update existing ones, with each sync defined by a JQL filter scoped to one project. Comments do not sync both ways, and the issue type is locked after creation. The January 2024 launch post described the same integration as one-way, so the write-back is a later addition.
Support and data. Both list Zendesk, Intercom, Slack, Gong, Segment, Mixpanel, Pendo, Snowflake, BigQuery and Amazon S3. ChurnZero adds Freshdesk, Help Scout and ServiceNow. Vitally adds Redshift, Postgres, MySQL, Census, Hightouch and Zapier.
06
Which one fits a 20 to 300 person SaaS company?
Pick ChurnZero when the customer base is wide and the CS team is thin. In-app announcements, WalkThroughs and Success Centers let the product do a share of the onboarding work, and Plays plus the agent library let a small team run repeatable programs across hundreds of accounts. The trade-off is surface area: more modules, more configuration, and an AI subscription priced separately.
Pick Vitally when the book is narrower and each account gets a person. Shared Docs, Projects with milestones and Hubs per team map well onto an implementation motion where the customer is in the room. Unlimited observer seats on every plan matter at this size: executives, support and product can see the account record without a paid seat. The trade-off is that there is no in-app messaging layer, so tech-touch work needs another tool.
If your team is Solutions Engineers and TAMs rather than classic CSMs, the Jira direction decides it for many buyers. Vitally can create and update Jira issues from the account record; ChurnZero reads them.
One more filter: who administers it. Vitally's formulas, custom objects and JQL-scoped syncs reward a CS Ops person who likes data modelling. ChurnZero's setup, by its own integration pages, is more vendor-led ("ChurnZero configures" appears repeatedly), which suits a team without that person.
07
Who owns ChurnZero and Vitally, and how are they funded?
Both are venture-backed private companies. Neither has announced a sale or a new round that could be verified from a primary source for this article.
ChurnZero raised a $25 million Series B led by JMI Equity, announced March 4, 2021, with Baird Capital and Grotech Ventures returning; the release puts total funding at $35 million. Its leadership page lists co-founders You Mon Tsang (CEO) and Mark Heys (CTO), and board members affiliated with JMI Equity, Grotech Ventures and Baird Capital.
Vitally raised a $30 million Series B led by Next47, announced February 2023, with Andreessen Horowitz, HubSpot Ventures and NewView Capital participating; TechCrunch put total raised at $40.6 million and reported a 62-person team at the time. Co-founders are Jamie Davidson (CEO) and Patrick Vatterott (CTO).
Third-party databases disagree on headcount and totals, so they are left out.
09
How should you run the evaluation?
Bring your own data to both. Vitally's pricing page advertises a "dedicated trial sandbox" with your data (it does not say whether it is free); ask ChurnZero for the equivalent. Build one real segment, one health score and one play, and time each without professional services.
Then run four tests the marketing pages will not answer. One, write a field from the CSP to Salesforce or HubSpot and watch how long it takes to land, and what happens when the same field is edited in both systems inside the sync window. Two, create a Jira issue from an account record, if the platform claims it can, and check what fields it cannot set. Three, record one customer call and compare the AI summary, suggested tasks and drafted follow-up against what the CSM would have written. Four, get the price in writing with every seat type, the AI credit allowance and the overage terms, because neither vendor puts it on a web page.
Whichever you choose, the platform will know your accounts better than your CRM within a quarter. What it will not do is keep every promise your team makes on a call. Budget for that gap separately, or at least decide on purpose who owns it.

FAQ
Is ChurnZero or Vitally cheaper?
Neither vendor publishes prices. Vitally lists three plans (Tech-Touch, Hybrid-Touch and High-Touch), each with a Request Pricing button, and says all plans include the same core features, unlimited automations, unlimited observer seats, SSO and unlimited Docs. ChurnZero has no public pricing page, and its AI agents are sold as a separate annual subscription called Agentic Essentials with a shared credit pool, also unpriced publicly. Third-party price estimates exist but are not vendor figures, so get both quotes in writing with seat definitions, AI credits and overage terms.
Which platform has better AI agents, ChurnZero or Vitally?
ChurnZero has more of them. Its AI page names around 20 agents across workflow assistance, signal detection and data enrichment, lets admins scope which accounts and knowledge sources each agent can use, and says agents can act autonomously or on request. Vitally offers one embedded copilot with an AI Meeting Recorder, AI Summaries with citations, Ask AI, AI Actions and a beta MCP server, framed around suggestions rather than autonomous agents. More agents is not automatically better; the right answer depends on how much you want running without a person in the loop.
Does Vitally integrate with Jira?
Yes. Vitally's help centre describes a bi-directional sync of Jira issues as custom objects, defined by a JQL filter per project. Designated users can create Jira issues from inside Vitally and update existing ones. Limits include no two-way comment sync and a locked issue type after creation. ChurnZero's Jira Software and Jira Service Management integrations are listed as read-only on issues, syncing every 15 minutes.
Can ChurnZero write back to Salesforce and HubSpot?
Yes. ChurnZero's integration details page lists Salesforce Accounts and Custom Fields as read/write and Contacts, Custom Tables and Tasks as read/write/create, with a default sync every 15 minutes. For HubSpot it lists Companies and Contacts as read/write and Deals and Engagements as read/write/create, with tickets, calls and deal line items read-only. Vitally also syncs both ways with Salesforce, including pushing health scores to fields you create in Salesforce.
Which is better for tech-touch or product-led customer success?
ChurnZero, on the published feature set. It includes in-app announcements, WalkThroughs, Success Centers and surveys delivered inside your product, plus Plays that can run across segments. Vitally's product pages do not describe an in-app messaging layer; its strengths are Docs, Projects and Hubs for higher-touch work. Vitally does offer a Tech-Touch plan, but the customer-facing channel is still email and shared Docs rather than in-product messages.
Do ChurnZero or Vitally turn call commitments into Jira tickets, CRM updates and follow-up emails automatically?
Not as a single governed flow. Both can record or ingest calls and produce summaries, action items and draft follow-ups. Neither describes a step where the ticket, the CRM field change and the email are drafted together from the call, approved by the CSM or TAM, and tracked to completion. Mindlyft is built for that layer and runs alongside either platform, with an approval step called A.S.T.R.A. before any action ships.
